ANTARCTICA

Living in the Freezer

Tent & Flag

The Antarctic Continent has fascinated man for centuries as being one the most inhospitable places in the world. In the last decade, scientific research, adventure and conservation has made Antarctica headline news with increasing occurrence.

Philip has travelled and worked in Antarctica on a number of occasions for the British Antarctic Survey. He offers audio visual slide shows on a number of subjects for clubs, societies and functions.

During the years of 1985 - 86 and 1988 - 89, Philip worked in Antarctica for the British Antarctic Survey guiding the Survey's scientists whilst in the field, and looking after the travel logistics. He lived for three months at a time in a tent on the ice completing scientific work, and has travelled over 1000 kilometres using skidoo and sledge. This slide show, using synchronised projectors and a variety of sound effects and music, tells of a journey down the Antarctic Peninsula. The superb pictures capture the atmosphere of the continent and give an insight into the travelling and working conditions, as well as the surrounding wild life.
